15 Can’t-Miss Acts at Submersion Festival 2024

submersion festival

There is no denying that the headliners for Submersion Festival this year are out of this world. But what really caught our attention this year, and that of thousands of fans who plan on descending upon Paradise Lakes for this one-of-a-kind festival, are all the artists on the undercard.

To help you figure out which sets are worth catching this year, we shed a little light on some well known and not so well known acts on the bill.

Caspa

Nominated by Maximilian Vanegas

“WAKE THE FUCK UP.” Released in 2007, Caspa’s “Cockney Thug” remix was one of the first songs that I really fell in love with. That aggressive ass vocal sample. That face smothering bass line. It’s a track that to continues to capture the raw nature of bass music. While “Cockney Thug” might be Caspa’s claim to fame, the West London phenom is coveted for several reasons. International touring artist, record label founder, and one of the undisputed dons of dubstep, Caspa is going to be an absolute treat at Paradise Lakes this October.

Comisar

comisar

Nominated by Maximilian Vanegas

Shuffling between a low-end party starter one minute and a melodic journeyman the next, Comisar is an artist with several approaches to the live stage. A close look at his catalog reveals a producer who is never satisfied with one pocket or genre and instead chooses to explore various tempos, moods, and flavors with his music.

Most recently, the Colorado-based artist touched down at Lightning in a Bottle to treat a fervent West Coast crowd to some frequency scattering plates and speaker flexing beats. With a flourishing production rate, expect plenty of unreleased magic when this member of the Qualia crew unleashes at the Submersion Pre-party.

COPYCATT

copycatt

Nominated by Maximilian Vanegas

Submersion Festival has developed a reputation for hosting tons of unique sets and side projects over the years. Previous years have featured performances by Cloud Conductor (Daily Bread), Sky.Lab (Face Plant), a Mr. Bill IDM set, and a VCTRE chill set to name a few.

This year, one of our most anticipated side projects or “novelty sets” is COPYCATT’s downtempo set. Anyone who has seen COPYCATT perform or listened to his music might wonder if the Australian hand grenade is capable of toning it down to that level. Despite his high-octane nature, playing a downtempo set and exploring chiller motifs is something he’s wanted to do for a while.

Stay tuned for an interview coming soon to learn about this debut performance set to take place at Submersion.

Easyjack

easyjack

Nominated by Maximilian Vanegas

Someone who I’ve only discovered in the past year and have been obsessed with ever since is The Rust’s Easyjack. While the Chicago native doesn’t have many recent releases, his catalogue of glitch hop, deep dub, downtempo, and even analog music stretches over a decade. He is by all means a veteran in the scene with recent appearances at Rendezvous in May and Infrasound in June. While Easyjack possesses several arrows in his quiver, Submersion Fest attendees will be treated with an “In Dub” set to close down the pre-party festivities on Thursday.

Esseks

esseks

Nominated by James Church

Sam Eckstein, better known to the bass community as Esseks, has become a mainstay act within his respective playing field. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Esseks presents a unique experience to share with everybody lucky enough to catch him live. Since his breakthrough in 2015, he’s worked with artists such as EPROM, kLL sMTH, and Of The Trees, perfectly pairing with his own original and eclectic sound.

Last September, we saw him on support for Rezz Rocks V which was huge, followed by a release on Memory Palace Records, and a handful of show announcements spread throughout the year. Most recently, he released a remix of “End Times” by lespcial and announced his return to Denver this Fall. After Denver, you can catch him at New Jersey’s beautiful Paradise Lakes for his set at Submersion Festival.

GLXY

GLXY

Nominated by Devin Dees

Perhaps one of our favorite Liquid D&B producers in rotation, GLXY are an unstoppable duo whose energy pairs perfectly both in the lab and on stage. Now with over a decade under their belts, they’ve honed in on an uplifting sound while remaining close to the soul. Tracks like ‘”New Day” and “Green Lane” with Alix Perez exemplify what we’re looking forward to and we can’t wait for their US debut under the disco ball!

Halogenix

halogenix

Nominated by James Church

Bringing some 174 BPM flavor to Submersion 2024 is renowned drum and bass artist from the UK, Halogenix. Originally getting his start as a trio with Ivy Lab, Halogenix has done an immaculate job paving his own way since his departure. From dark and grimy to lush and liquid, this man can do it all, and we’re here for every bit of it. The first half of the year was kept busy with select shows across Europe and North America leading up to the release of his anticipated debut album, Passions, dropped in late April. As of now, his next scheduled stop in the States is set for Submersion 2024 during the 5.5 hour 1985 takeover.

Kursa

kursa

Nominated by James Church

An artist that fits perfectly on this five-star lineup is none other than the Bristol-based heavyweight producer Kursa. The sound design extraordinaire is making his Submersion debut this year and treating our ear holes to not just one, but TWO (count ‘em, TWO) specialty sets. Confined to no single genre, Kursa is known to span the musical spectrum while keeping his gritty style stapled throughout.

This year has been one of growth for the veteran producer. Only halfway through the year and we’ve seen his departure from K.L.O., the debut of his live hardware set, loads of show announcements, and Bandcamp releases per usual. Coming up on his festival radar as of now is Lost Lands this September, and of course, Submersion come October where we’ll be blessed with not only a beats set, but his second ever live hardware set as well.

pheel. x Foxtail x Danny Grooves

pheel. danny grooves foxtail

Nominated by Maximilian Vanegas

Submersion Festival is not complete without some wild B2B action. Last year, we had crazy combinations like Commodo B2B Kahn B2B NEEK, Duffrey B2B Thought Process, and that bonkers kLL sMTH & Friends set. This year, one of our most anticipated B2B’s will feature pheel., Foxtail, and Danny Grooves. While this particular B2B won’t be as high-energy as the ones we just mentioned, that’s exactly why we love it. We’re expecting an afternoon slot on the Beach Stage right before sunset filled with tons of beats, hip-hop, and according to a recent post by pheel., B2B cuts on the turntable between him and Foxtail.

Prosper.

Prosper.

Nominated by Devin Dees

As for up and coming artists on the lineup, Prosper. was quick to come to mind after her stellar performance last year set the tone for an unbelievable run of artists at The Woods stage. Her soulful selections are met with an equally smooth touch on the decks and a seamless blend perfect for closing your eyes and letting the sound drive. Check out her most recent mix on Kool FM below!

SHY FX

SHY FX

Nominated by Devin Dees

None other than the ‘Original Nuttah’ himself, Shy FX will grace the stage for what will surely be one of the most talked about sets of the weekend. Renowned and respected as one of Drum & Bass and Jungle’s earliest producers in the scene, he remains a staple in 2024 with recent hits like “Roll the Dice” with Lily Allen (yes, that Lily Allen) and the freshly released Rudeboy Design Soundtape. This is simply a cannot miss.

Soukii

Soukii

Nominated by Devin Dees

Another DJ we’ve kept close eye on, Soukii, makes his way to Submersion for the first time in October. Coming off of his very first headlining show and support for countless artists across the US, his infectious energy draws in audienes while his ability to stir crowds can’t be understated. With deep crates chock full of UK garage, dubstep, drum & bass and more – you never quite know what to expect.

S.P.Y

S.P.Y

Nominated by Devin Dees

With one of the most unique lineups in the states, Submersion has nailed the drum and bass selection once again with Brazilian heavyweight S.P.Y! Residing in London since 2003, the Hospital Records alum has played across the world and is finally making his return to the US. Featuring high energy and technical percussions, his tracks stands the test of time with a constantly growing catalog.

Torcha

torcha

Nominated by James Church

Another incredible addition to the Submersion family is Toronto-based up-and-comer Torcha. Torcha has been carefully setting the stage for himself to join the upper 140 ranks alongside other heavy hitters featuring the likes of Criso, Wraz, and Chef Boyarbeatz. Unfortunately due to Visa issues, his return to North America was a little delayed earlier this year, but that didn’t stop his tunes from completely decimating dance floors all across the country. With artists like Distinct Motive and Skream playing out his tracks, it’s evident that Torcha is an artist who understands the music he’s creating. His most recent releases include him and skxllflower‘s highly sought-after remix of “Baddadan” and his “Flip It” remix which both capture his low-end abilities perfectly. While he’s busy shredding Red Rocks for Deadrocks X this month, we’ll be patiently waiting to be blown away in October at Submersion.

Tunic

tunic

Nominated by James Church

An additional entry within the low-end spectrum is underground phenom Tunic. Originally from Ringwood, New Jersey, it was only right to have him join NJ’s hometown throw-down.

For the majority of the last decade, Tunic has been fine-tuning his sound to punch through subs and shake up dance halls. On top of running Hi-Vi Sound System and cooking up music you don’t just hear but feel, he just wrapped up his 2024 North American tour with fellow underground torch holders DE-TÜ and Versa. His two most recent releases, the “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy” flip with DoVeE, and “Heatseeker” with Die By The Sword, both showcase why Tunic deserves to be at Submersion. Make sure you get up in time for his dub and breakfast set!
