Comisar Unveils ‘Hidden Origins’: A Soul-Stirring Journey Released on Odyzey Music

comisar

Multi-faceted bass artist Comisar, based out of Fort Collins, Colorado, has been on the rise for years now. With performances at legendary events like Electric Forest, Sonic Bloom, Sound Haven, the Untz, and more, it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a household name inside and outside of the undergound community. Much to the delight of the Comisar faithful, he’s out with a brand new EP on CloZee’s Odyzey label.

His latest project, a four-track journey dubbed Hidden Origins, is a masterful body of work that beautifully highlights his sonic talents. It opens with “Source,” an expertly produced song that blends heavy bass with ethereal vocals and subtle drum tracks near the end to pay homage to the ongoing rise of drum and bass.

Next is “Fearless,” a slower track with rises that build anticipation and lead into cathartic, deep, and wubby drops.

It segues perfectly into “Alchemy,” a gorgeous, epic track reminiscent of CloZee’s earlier work.

Rounding out the project is “DNA,” which will make you feel as though you’re floating on clouds while you listen. This is one EP you’ll want to run back again and again.

I was fortunate to catch Comisar at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom on February 29, where he opened for Phurn, Saturna, DAGGZ, and Lowcation as part of the Qualia showcase. Comisar made for an ideal opener, starting slow and building throughout his set to get the crowd ready for the heavier artists to come. His performance was well-crafted and flowed effortlessly from one song to the next, showing off the skills he’s honed over the years.

Every track produced by Comisar is loaded with meaning, emotion, and natural themes. It’s easy to imagine him playing a late-night set under the stars in the woods or desert, creating a rounded experience that helps listeners get in touch with both themselves and the earth.

It’s not easy to stand out in an industry that’s packed with on-the-rise talent, but Comisar manages to do it. Fans who would like to catch a live set can see Comisar at Winter Wake Up in the Poconos later this month and back in Denver with Josh Teed this May.
