There is no denying that Claude VonStroke is a pillar in the electronic music community and one of the most well-known acts across the scene. But behind the name and accompanying project is a man named Barclay Crenshaw; an artist with exploratory visions in more than one realm.
As we’ve grown with Claude VonStroke, so have his tastes and inclinations toward the music he wants to play and the communities he wants to inspire. So much so that the Detroit-bred 52-year-old has announced plans to temporarily abandon the Claude VonStroke project in pursuit of a more bass-forward direction as Barclay Crenshaw – his government name.

This past November, Crenshaw kicked off the new chapter in riotous fashion alongside Of The Trees at Red Rocks. During the momentous occasion, fans were treated to Of The Tree’s and Crenshaw’s latest collaboration together, “Blue Mile” ft. Strategy.
The track begins with a tempo and ethos that could suggest a descent into bass house territory, but quickly shifts lanes with Strategy’s ironclad verses and a warbled bass breakdown. Combined with some familiar-sounding bird noises, Of The Trees’ low-end capabilities and Crenshaw’s tastemaking allure shine bright all over the track.
Released on Memory Palace, “Blue Mile” is the first of many to come from the mind of the once house-possessed producer. On January 5th, 2024, Crenshaw will be releasing the first single from his upcoming LP, Open Channel, which will be followed by a 13-stop album tour in locations as notorious as Webster Hall and the North Warehouse.
