I was standing on a lakeside beach in the summer of 2024, and all I could see and hear in the distance were flashing black-and-white visuals and a glitched-out, mutated soundscape that offered the scent of a faint memory — SLUG WIFE.
Anyone familiar with SLUG WIFE knows that this trademark sound that was ringing a bell in my auditory cortex was chiseled and trademarked by a remarkable group of electronic engineers — one of the most prolific of the bunch being the Bermondsey-born bass provocateur KURSA.
Of course, who else would it be on the beach that night, but KURSA, crafting, in real time, one of the most unique live performances I had the pleasure of enjoying at Submersion Fest 2024.
Double-taking between the shore and the stage, to make sure that it wasn’t a lake monster emerging from the water I was hearing, KURSA poured up hybrid analogue concoctions from the deep that to this day are tattooed on my brain.
Much to the district’s delight, a pair of DC’s finest curators of bass music — Closed Sessions and Para Presents — have invited KURSA back to the DMV to rip a hybrid version of his hardware machinations on the rooftop of Flash nightclub from 6 to 10 this Friday afternoon.
We’ll see you there.
