In this case, it’s quite the opposite, with a very real festival called Summers End Smokeout where the more spliffs, the better.
Taking place in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, this consumption-friendly event is lauded for several reasons, one of which is their insane lineup. Below, we take a look at some of our most anticipated acts and share a little info on why they can’t be missed.
Athena
Hailing out of Maryland, the Deep, Dark, and Dangerous diva known as Athena has built a reputation for anchoring 140 warhammers to some of the darkest depths of low-end bass. Coming off a massive run of dates with The Widdler, expect the saber-toothed sonic disruptor to shake some plates at Summer’s End this year.
Deerskin
An act we’ve just begun to familiarize ourselves with, Deerskin will be a first for us at Summer’s End Smokeout this year. Stretching his sounds across a wide palette, which includes organic, tribal, and psychedelic bass, we’re expecting this set to be nothing short of a science project.
Fika
One of the current torchbearers in a post-Tipper tomorrow, the tempo-switching, partying-starting sonic contortionist known as Fika is our most anticipated act for Summer’s End Smokeout 2026. Fresh off a downtempo LP, and now venturing back into his usual onslaught of uptempo particle disruption, this is a can’t-miss set.
Flintwick
If you’re looking for original sound design, Flintwick has a whole factory of it. With enough ploinks, blips, and squelches to soundtrack a season of Adventure Time, the Midwest mayhem maker will be coming correct come Summer’s End.
kLL sMTH
From Ultrasloth and cHLL sMTH to kLL Bill and gRLL sMTH, the kLL sMTH project and its many forms has been an absolute joy to watch unfold. With a studio prowess that holds up to his live sets, expect this slot to satiate even the most unquenchable bass appetites.
Resonant Language
Resonant Language has been on a warpath recently. Coming off a two-piece at Sound Haven last weekend, footage and fan testimony lend claim to the glitch hop gun slingers’ ravenous state.
