Summer is heating up fast in Colorado, and the local scene is packed with nightly opportunities to enjoy disruptive frequencies and high-energy sonics of all varieties. With so many options to choose from, how do you weed out the ones worth going to?
While we can’t answer that ourselves (my personal philosophy is to send as many as possible), we can point you in the right direction to see some quality sets. One upcoming event you won’t want to miss takes place on the summer solstice, June 20th, at Denver’s legendary venue, the Black Box.
Those familiar with Mr. Lang, Audio Goblin, and Arcturus are likely to look at this as a dream curation with each of their styles pairing perfectly. This past April, Mr. Lang directly preceded Audio Goblin for a kLL sMTH headliner and the flow worked brilliantly. Despite the opening slot, Mr. Lang dropped a gauntlet of uptempo bangers that picked up the pace of that theatre show quickly. Take this as your sign to get their early!
Chicago’s Audio Goblin has trotted a fine line of experimental bass recently. When his debut LP, Molting, dropped in May it didn’t just arrive, it erupted, and has been dispensing magma through speakers up and down the underground ever since. Aside from this massive release, Audio Goblin is coming off a galvanized run of shows including a massive support slot for K.L.O, so expect nothing but high octane flavor when he arrives at The Black Box on 6/20.
As for our headliner of the night, Arcturus, there is much to be said about this multi-faceted musician. Based out in the red cliffs and juniper forests of Sedona, Arizona, Arcturus concocts a brew of multiple flavors and allures. His most recent body of work, Jazztronauts, combines a bevy of elements, most notably jazzy textures and samples, but revolves around the neuro, psybass, and left-field spectrum. As his first headlining and self-curated event, expect Arcturus to let everything fly.
The run-of-show for the night is a clean three with Mr. Lang and Audio Goblin spinning for 75 minutes each and Arcturus doing 90.
If you’d like to explore while you’re there, you can head over to the Black Box’s lounge and catch sets from local DJs and producers like Mojo, Synchronicity, Subliminal, and more.
The Black Box is something of a haven for Denver bass music lovers, with top-notch sound provided by a combination of Tannoy IQ tops, Funktion-One F215s for mid-range, and 8 Othorn 21″ subs. The venue is cozy and intimate but still curates a lively atmosphere, perfect for a night out with some good friends. If you want to get your summer party season off to a good start, we recommend being there on 6/20!
To attend the event, get your tickets here, and be sure to follow the Black Box to stay up-to-date on all of their planned shows for the upcoming months!
