Under The Current: The Best New Music You Haven't Heard

Your new favorite artist might be in here.

Under The Current digs through the overwhelming releases of the past week to unearth the hidden gems. From Cuban house to dark-pop, this week spans genres we didn’t even know existed and has us dancing from start to finish.

Check out our favorite new tracks from the past week, and stream the entire playlist below.

Pham – Nostalgia Mixtape

After taking nearly two years off from releasing music, Polish production prodigy Pham makes his triumphant return with Nostalgia, a diverse 5 song mixtape. The mixtape seamlessly floats from melancholy to upbeat, showcasing influences from indie-pop, hip-hop, and trap.

NASAYA – Patterns

“Patterns” is the first single released on Minerva Music, a label started by indie-electronic legends Goldroom and RAC. It’s a synthy, soulful track influenced by NASAYA’s diverse upbringing in Reunion Island, a French island located just outside of Madagascar.

Marc Benjamin x DNMKG – Hooked

Marc Benjamin may not be a household name but he has the dance-pop sensibility of artists like Zedd and Nicky Romero, and “Hooked” is a dance-pop crossover gem that will keep you dancing all summer.

PAUZA – Carajillo (ft La Real)

Our favorite (and only) Cuban female electronic duo is back with “Carajillo”. The song, which was just relaunched for Cocada: The Second Season seamlessly infuses electronic synths with Cuban rhythms.

ËMMË – Yule (ft PON CHO)

This collaboration between longtime friends is a genre-bending heater, full of nail-biting builds and heavy oscillating bass. It’s going to shake your soul and keep you moving from start to finish.

Antra – Rock The Boat

“Rock The Boat” is a future bass meets R&B remake of Aaliyah’s classic song by the same name.

teamwork. – Afterhours (ft Nina Nesbitt & AJ Mitchell)

L.A based songwriting/production duo teamwork. have enlisted two of the hottest rising singers in Nina Nesbitt and AJ Mitchell for this pop-tinged electronic summer jam.

Valencia James – Flames

“Flames” is the debut single from dark-pop artist Valencia James, who used the tragic burning of her childhood home as the inspiration for the song.

Sweeps – Not Just One Thing

This single was pitched to me as a “Bonobo and Tycho” type sound with a twist of lo-fi hip hop. Sweeps makes his River Beats debut with this gem.

These are just a few of the songs in the newest update to Freshly Picked Beats. Be sure to check out the Spotify playlist in its entirety below.
