2017 marked the return of the illustrious band from Great Britain, The xx, as they released their newest studio album, I See You. Already off to a huge start, The xx’s third LP gave life to widely acclaimed singles, like “Say Something Loving” and “On Hold.” Since its release, the band has been making their way around the festival circuit, performing at legendary festivals including Coachella and Glastonbury.
Now, The xx is gifting fans the deluxe version of I See You, and it comes with a few extra surprises.
While already the chapter of their discography that sounds most reminiscent of Jamie xx’s solo success, this deluxe LP takes that sentiment one step further. With 4 new tracks, the standout has to be “Naive,” which samples a track from Drake’sTake Care album.
Didn’t recognize the sample at first? Listen again here.
This is the first time Jamie xx has played with integrating Hip-Hop/R&B into his signature production. For an example, see his hit collaboration with Young Thug and Popcaan titled “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times),” off of In Colour.
So far, The xx seem to be the King Midas of electronic/indie bands–with even Jamie xx himself reaping the benefits of the “curse.”
What can we say? Everything these guys touch is just absolute gold.
