Submersion Festival Announces Lineup Additions, Elements Sound Camp, and Three Day August Soirée

For those with their minds on music in the pines, all roads lead to Submersion. On our way to the main event, October is both a fond memory and an exciting destination, and the team behind this third-year festival has been dropping announcements like water balloons on a sultry August day.

From a sound camp takeover to lineup additions, to a weekend of fresh events they’ve curated to guide their family through the end of summer, the Submersion team has us covered until we can return at last to the shores of Paradise Lakes.

Lineup Additions

PEEKABOO

As the penultimate drop on a lineup already teeming with names to make your ears drool with excitement and expectation, the last weeks saw the announcement of PEEKABOO coming to the Pine Barrens to dish out a dirty dose of dubstep on the Beach Stage.

This past year, the Detroit-bred producer, renowned for his signature style of space bass, released Eyes Wide Open, his debut album, featuring collaborations with Skrillex, LYNY, Zed’s Dead, and more, followed by a national and European tour. The momentum keeps building with dates into November, so expect him to roll into Submersion on a crisp crest of practiced sound sure to shift the sands along the beach.

Distinct Motive

The final addition to the lineup, Canadian producer Distinct Motive is making his return to Submersion, this time with a solo set. For the last decade, Distinct Motive has been making waves with the slurky bounce of his visceral, minimalistic style, a unique take on the root forms of dubstep.

So far, 2024 has seen the producer grace the stages of big name venues around the country, from Red Rocks Ampitheatre and Texas Eclipse Festival to Hampton Coliseum, The Brooklyn Mirage, and more. This year has also seen the release of Mellow Man on the Deadbeats label, met with high regard. We can’t wait to hear the womps and wobbles this legend has in store for us come October.

Submerging the Elements

If you’re hitting the racetrack for Elements Music Festival this year, you’re in for a special treat. Powered by an Intent Audio rig from Empire Sound Systems, with lighting provided by Mike Jaws, lighting director for Dopapod, Camp Nowhere will be recreating the beloved Woods Stage at their sound camp.

It was just announced that Camp Nowhere will be setting up the sound camp at Site B12 in the Vibe Village, and the lineup will be stacked with support from stage alumni and a number of special guests. You won’t need to search far to feel the energy of this magnetic stage pulling you toward the music.

If these past months of announcements have had you itching for Paradise Lakes as badly as us, don’t fret: the third weekend of August, the Submersion team is dropping their anchor in Philly with three stacked events to keep you dancing through the City of Brotherly Love all weekend long.

Starting things off with a Weekend Welcome party, Friday, August 16th, is set to be a night of downtempo undulations taking place at Liaison Room with cHLL sMTH, Face Plant presents Sky.Lab (the Philly producer’s “stargaze” side project, debuted at last year’s Submersion), and Skopik.

On Saturday, Aug. 17th, Detox Unit is bringing that special plate of spaghetti and sauce to One Art Community Center on a firewater bill with Esseks, kLL sMTH, Villain Era, Mark McNulty, and Prosper.

And on Sunday, Aug. 18th, the Submersion Family BBQ returns to Glendinning Rock Garden for a full day of friendly faces, free admission, food, festivities, and fun in the sun. This outdoor extravaganza will be soundtracked by the music of Charles Nimbus, Freq, and a DJ set from Aaron “Zone Drums” Harel, all bumping through the euphonic stacks of an Intent Audio sound system.

With three artist names still shrouded by leaves on the flyer, this event has plenty of surprises to come, so plug the date in your phone and conserve your energy to cap the weekend proper: This is set to be a Submersion Sunday for the books.

Only Two Months To Go!

There’s something special about a third-year festival. This is when all the cracks are paved out and all the gems are polished clean. If you’ve been to the last two Submersion Festivals, you’re probably scratching your head over what the team could do to make this event better, and if this is your first year, you’ve probably heard what makes this weekend of music and art a crowning close-out of the season. With two months to go, we can’t wait to see this next iteration come to life in full form.

If you haven’t already, make sure to get those tickets, and follow all the links below to stay up to date with announcements to come. We have a feeling there might just be a few more surprises waiting down the river!
