From illegal renegades in the Redwood Forests to psilocybin-infused train rides through Belgium, the sonic trajectory of SCHMUX has been shaped by several experiences.

Most recently, we experienced the culmination of these experiences at Washington DC’s Flash Night Club, where SCHMUX, government name Joshua Fridman, was tasked with opening up for Lumasi on the tail end of his Eclipse tour.

For 75 minutes, Fridman fed the occupants of Flash a fat mainline of low-end warhammers, including plenty of dubstep, a few sections of riddim, and some choice selections from his debut EP, Origin Code, released this past November.
While the three-track extended premiere portrays SCHMUX as a well-studied engineer, one equipped with a degree from Berklee, intuitive arrangement skills, and a quickly developing trademark sound, we believe there is far more to discover from the bass-forward sonician from Santa Cruz.
The main reason why is his eclectic approach to producing and performing, both of which he maintains a very high standard for.
“I explore different styles in my sound and sets because it reflects what I’m genuinely drawn to as an artist. Authenticity matters a lot to me, whether I’m in the studio or performing live, so what I play and release is simply the music that is resonating with me.”
Heading into 2026, Fridman has no plans of slowing down, with an upcoming performance alongside Mersiv and the Morflo crew in Grand Rapids this coming February.
