ROYALFLU$H Reflects on Skull Vision Story, Annapolis Roots, and Future Ambitions

ROYALFLU$H

An inspired vision hardly ever manifests itself in one form. Instead, it grows, evolves, it might even die, only to be reborn stronger. One vision that has gone through several stages, both literally and figuratively, is that of Alex Davis – the mind behind ROYALFLU$H and Skull Vision.

Growing up in Maryland, moving to Florida, and later back to Maryland, Davis has immersed himself in various scenes across the electronic music industry and through it all, has made an indelible impact with his efforts.

Last summer, River Beats covered Davis’ endeavors in Annapolis, Maryland as he began to revive a once-dead electronic scene in the capital city.

Today, one year later, Davis has found himself at a boiling point as he returns from a short tour in Florida and looks towards a very busy summer that includes the debut of a new venue in Annapolis, a series of takeovers with Thunderground Thursdays in Baltimore, an extended merch drop, new music – both on the label and solo side, and plenty more.

Recently, we caught up with Davis to hear how the ROYALFLU$H & Skull Vision stories came together, how he feels about the current wave he’s riding, and his plans for the future.

MV: How, when, and where did the ROYALFLU$H project begin?

AD: The ROYALFLU$H project began around 2017, born out of late-night sessions in Annapolis as a producer duo with former Annapolis-based producer Solace. Before that, we both had solo DJ projects, but came together to build something bigger—something that could shake rooms and shift the culture.

We were rooted in heavy trap energy and a big, cinematic festival sound—raw enough for the streets, but massive enough for the main stage. The name stands for high stakes, no safety nets—it’s about making every move like it’s the last one, with full confidence in the outcome.

Since 2019, I’ve continued the project solo, evolving the sound while staying true to the foundation it was built on: bold, gritty, and unapologetically original.

MV: How, when, and where did the Skull Vision project begin?

AD: Skull Vision emerged shortly after within the same creative space. It began as a multimedia project—focused more on visuals and concepts than just music alone. The project explores themes of perspective, duality, and raw, unfiltered expression. As the label has grown, we’ve also started tapping into events and collaborating with nationally touring artists, expanding our reach and influence beyond just releasing music. If ROYALFLU$H is the heartbeat, Skull Vision is the mind—guiding the creative direction and expanding the project beyond music into a broader creative platform.

MV: How have these two projects developed alongside each other? How do they intersect?

AD: ROYALFLU$H is me – that’s my personal artist identity, my main creative outlet, and the core of my sound. Skull Vision, on the other hand, is the label and collective platform I built to house everything around that. It gives me a place to experiment and drop music that might not fit directly on the ROYALFLU$H page, but still reflects the world I’m building. It also creates space for other artists to grow within that same creative universe.

Every year, both ROYALFLU$H and Skull Vision continue to evolve and grow in the right direction. The projects feed off each other—one personal, one collective—but they both push the same mission forward: innovation, authenticity, and building something bigger than just me.

MV: What is your vision for the EP? How would you describe and categorize it?

AD: My EP, Lifetimes, is a collection of music I’ve written over the past two years. I moved back to Maryland about a year ago, and being back home has been a powerful experience—there’s been a lot of growth and challenges along the way. I put all my feelings and life experiences into the music, so this EP is really a reflection of my journey.

Sonically, Lifetimes draws from dubstep, trap, and experimental bass, blending heavy, dynamic sounds with emotional depth. I also feature my own vocals on one of the tracks, adding a personal touch to the project. Ultimately, I want Lifetimes to be an authentic reflection of my journey—raw, real, and unapologetically me.

MV: What are your intentions as an artist?

AD: My intention as an artist goes beyond just making music—I want to create moments where people can truly connect with their raw emotions, whether that’s bliss, pain, passion, or struggle. Music saved my life during some of my darkest times, and through my art, I hope to offer that same lifeline to others. If my music can help someone feel deeply understood and embraced in their truth, then I know I’ve fulfilled my purpose.

MV: What have been some of your biggest milestones?

AD: Opening for Subtronics at The Brooklyn Mirage was a major moment—sharing that kind of stage and energy showed me what this could really be. Playing my first headline show at TK Lounge in Tampa was another huge step; it was the first time I really felt the weight of being the main act. Releasing music with a major label like Bassrush put the stamp on a lot of hard work. Then there’s hearing my tracks get rinsed at places like Red Rocks—surreal, honestly. And recently, finishing my first full merch collection felt like a turning point too—it’s more than just music now, it’s a whole world people can be part of.

MV: What have been some of the lowest moments or hardest parts of your career?

AD: The hardest part of my career has definitely been balancing the demands of life with chasing my music goals. I have a full-time job on top of running the label and managing everything else—finances, mental health, relationships. That constant pressure and workload can feel overwhelming at times. I often felt stretched thin, dealing with self-doubt, and struggling to maintain connections with the people I care about while staying focused on my passion. But these challenges taught me resilience and the importance of setting boundaries, prioritizing self-care, and finding a sustainable way to pursue my dreams.

MV: How, when, where, and why did you make the decision to start developing a scene in Annapolis?

AD: I started playing shows in Annapolis around 2017 with Earl From Yonder, but there wasn’t really a consistent promo or event group putting on regular shows. When I moved back to Maryland from Florida last January, I decided it was time to lock in and build something real. I had a solid roster of artists with Skull Vision, many of whom were ready to perform live, so finding a reliable venue became the biggest priority. From there, it was about creating a space for our community to grow and thrive.

MV: How do you feel about how the scene has grown over the last year?

AD: I feel like there’s been incredible growth in the Annapolis scene over the last year. There have been a lot of opportunities for local and regional producers to showcase their skills and play alongside nationally touring talent. The energy and excitement around the Annapolis rave scene are really palpable right now. Having artists like Twopercent, Ozztin, and Andrew Lux come through was a huge moment that helped put the scene on the map and inspired a lot of people here.

MV: What is your favorite part about the Annapolis scene?

AD: The hunger. Everyone’s working with a chip on their shoulder. There’s a rawness and authenticity you don’t always find in bigger cities. We’re building something real, organic, fresh, and new from the ground up. It’s exciting because the scene is wide open right now, and when you’re part of it, you feel a genuine sense of connection and support that’s hard to find anywhere else.

MV: What are your plans for the future in Annapolis and otherwise?

AD: In Annapolis, I want to keep building infrastructure—more venues, more workshops, more collabs across disciplines. I see us becoming a serious creative hub. Beyond that, I want to take this vision global—tour, collaborate internationally, expand the visual and sonic worlds of ROYALFLU$H and Skull Vision. Festival stage takeovers would be sick to showcase our sound on a larger scale. Annapolis is the roots, but the branches reach everywhere.
