Resonant Language, charles nimbus, Maxfield, and More Bring the Bass to Burlington (Event Preview)

An old proverb states, “They who sing through the summer must dance in the winter.” This is the only way to survive and thrive and smile through to spring, and as the Green Mountains lose their leaves in the year-round wonderland of Vermont, soon to be capped with inviting blankets of snow, Northeasters already have their sights on the season of festivities and winter recreation to come.

It is in this spirit of transition, camaraderie, and celebration that Full Melt Productions is bringing Resonant Language, charles nimbus, Maxfield, headnod., and ESOK to Burlington to close out their 2024 season at ArtsRiot on November 22nd with a night of unapologetic bass on a full rig of HSD sound.

The Event

Full Melt Productions

Throwing this event is Full Melt Productions, a staple of the contemporary underground scene in Vermont. Full Melt Productions was founded in 2021 with the vision of providing quality electronic shows in the uncertain era following COVID 19.

Noticing a sudden lack of live music and spaces to gather in the greater Burlington area, Full Melt Productions stepped in to fill that void with proper attention to details like space, lineups, and sound, taking chances, learning along the way, and growing into the influential force it is today.

“We were born out of the post-COVID 19 scene after over a decade of event experience. We noticed a lack of music and a lack of space for community engagement, for people to engage with the music and each other, and our vision was to bring diverse genres of electronic music back into our community, genres like bass, speed garage, jungle, breaks, house, techno.”-Andrew Lawrence, Founder of Full Melt Productions

That first year, FMP threw a show with Honeycomb and teamed up with The Rust for an event with Face Plant and Pluto Era. Since then, they’ve been the host of two series, BASSment and Full Melt Thursdays, and have seen headliners like LTJ Bukem, Mark Farina, Copycatt, Lusine, Mike Wallis, Ooga, and Distinct Motive grace the stage at their events, a testament to FMP’s original vision of bringing a nuanced array of musical styles to the bacchanalian underbelly of Burlington.

ArtsRiot

Located in the South End Arts District, south of the Church Street bustle, ArtsRiot is a venue (and restaurant) founded on the concept of working with experimental artists who push outside the status quo. Their “eternal mission,” as stated in the manifesto on their website, is to “Destroy apathy. Evoke emotion.”

ArtsRiot closed its doors in 2022, not long after Full Melt Productions hosted a successful show there with The Widdler. It reopened this year to much excitement in the Burlington area, including that of Full Melt Productions, who is thrilled to have the opportunity to throw another event within its walls.

“We really love [ArtsRiot] because it allows us to bring in a full HiFi system and a full level of production.”-Andrew Lawrence, Founder of Full Melt Productions

Audiovisual Experience

Sound for the event will be curated by Tiaga. Expect a full HSD rig, including four Battleaxes, six Cannons, and four Mantarrays to ensure your ears will be bundled up toasty with smooth and balanced resonance.

Meanwhile, there will be lighting displays from Florentine Farms and visual wonders from Eyelingual and Threethinx, a trio of New England artists coming together to cook up an optical feast for the books.

The Players

headnod. and ESOK

Opening the night with a proper flourish, we have two emerging artists who have been quickly developing names for themselves in the scene: headnod. and ESOK.

ESOK made his debut earlier this year supporting K.L.O. and Duffrey at House of Yes in Brooklyn, NY. He has since played at the Black Box and released his first original mix to much acclaim, blending lofi/hip hop vibes akin to the all:Lo school with smooth chunks of heavy-hitting bass.

headnod. is a multifaceted producer, pianist, and member of the Six Star Records (affiliate of FMP) roster. Shifting on warm plates of low end bass, his dialed-in lofi is mixed with live jazz production for a signature style of trip hop, weaving through the neural network of listeners to evoke the motion of his namesake. This year, he released tracks on Six Star compilation Push & Pull as well as an all original mix, headnod. ID mix 001.

Maxfield

A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Boston-based producer Maxfield is a melodic menace with the seasoned experimental skills of a sonic lapidarist, crafting maniacal, textured soundscapes that baffle the brain, bolster the heart, and set the blood to boil and boogie. Mixing flourishes of instrumentation with industrious sound design that draws influence from a diverse range of genres–neuro, glitch, psybient, future bass, jazztronica, cinematic scoring, and more–Maxfield is a melting pot of musical madness that meets the ears brimming with fresh and invigorating arrangements.

Maxfield’s exploratory range is showcased in this year’s releases alone–from Kerfuffle EP to the masterful downtempo journey of Imaginary Landscapes Vol. 3 (a mix played live in a seated setting at Hypnotic Theatre in March) to his most recent release, an uptempo mix, Taking Flight. 2024 has seen Maxfield take the stage in Denver, Brooklyn, Cambridge, and Wilmington, with more dates to come as he joins Tripp St. on a number of nationwide tour dates throughout the rest of the year.

charles nimbus

For direct support, we have charles nimbus, the alias of Philadelphia-based producer Charles Capeless, a live-wire on the scene in recent years with a crisp, exhilarating take on percussive bass-scapes like DnB and UKG. Drawing influence from deep roots underground scenes on both sides of the pond, nimbus has shared the stage with artists like Tipper, Jade Cicada, Ivy Lab, and LTJ Bukem, offering a range of dance-floor energies and making a name for himself inside the studio and out.

2024 has seen the producer on a full scale tour with Chez and crawdad sniper, dubbed “3 OF A KIND,” as well as performances in cities like Denver and Chicago and a Saturday slot at Infrasound Equinox. This year has also been the launchpad for a number of sole-melting singles, such as “Projector” and “Infiltrate,” the latter as part of Six Star Records compilation Push & Pull. Just last month, Villain Era, his side project with Tygris and Wessanders, released their first EP with Colony Productions, The Nefarious EP, out now on all streaming platforms to much acclaim.

Resonant Language

Headlining the night, Resonant Language will be bringing his crunchy, brain-splitting neuro to Burlington. Creating intricate glitchscapes that mimic mental oscillations under intense waves of stimuli and revelatory insight, often inducing listeners to wonder if the singularity hasn’t already occurred, Resonant Language has been making admirable leaps and discoveries in the ever-expanding realm of experimental bass since he first showed up on the scene, developing what many see as a school of his own.

This past year, Resonant Language headlined shows in major cities like Philadelphia and Atlanta and played prime festival slots at The Rendezvous, Autumn Revival, and Wakaan. In September, he crushed the penultimate slot for Tipper on Bangers Night at the Orion Amphitheatre, and he paired with DR01D Visuals to headline an unforgettable night in St. Pete for Alchemy Productions’ three-year anniversary. Most recently, the audiovisual pair teamed up again to join Of the Trees at Red Rocks Ampitheatre. With no official releases since 2023’s Input Slope, expect a set in Burlington rife with staggering IDs and twisted VIPs.

Travel near, travel far: You will not want to miss what unfolds November 22nd on the shores of Lake Champlain.

With this event, Full Melt Productions will be bringing its 2024 season to a close in preparation for the year to come. Expect a jam-packed 2025 from FMP as they expand their reach from the Green Mountains to join forces with promoters throughout New England to further strengthen the quality of their events and develop greater community bonds throughout the diverse region.
