There is no shortage of new labels in the 2026 electronic space. But ones that live up to the hype they arrived with? That consistently deliver new and exciting projects?
That’s rare.
That makes Observatory Records, a label that’s defining “future sound,” a unicorn in the space. One with three horns that releases really progressive bass music.
With a roster that includes names like Detox Unit, Sortof Vague, and crawdad sniper, the spiritually experimental collective has been one to watch. But it’s not so much the artists that make them such a marvel as much as it is the music.
Although the sonic architecture of Observatory is everchanging, the nature of their stewards seem to gravitate to a core frequency, one that is carried from one release to the next.
How they accomplish this ethos, we’re not sure, but we’re keen to find out, through their live demonstration at Meow Wolf this weekend.

Meet said stewards in the following slides or the link in @riverbeatsdance’s bio.
headnod
Though well-equipped with the mechanics to accomplish mangled bass lines and sequences of the most menacing variety, the producer known as headnod prefers to traverse chiller melodies that itch your brain and shampoo your soul. Not sure there’s anyone else more perfect to open up a night like this.
Ferrofluid

One of River Beats’ 2026 Artists to Watch, Ferrofluid excites us in the same way a neural network becoming sentient does. These ethers are unpredictable. Walking a tightrope through starry-eyed textures and paralyzing synth structures, the deep diving sonician has configured a noise that is both hypnotically danceable and oddly introspective.
Charles Nimbus

Walking into a Charles Nimbus set is a lot like eating a bag of mushrooms in a house of Mirrors, where every version of yourself is doing something different. The Philly producer comes with a palette that Picasso couldn’t touch, fully capable of painting you and your dancefloor posse with every color of the rainbow.
Sortof Vague

The torchbearer, the tectonic shifting trapeze artist, and perhaps one of the most accurate depictions of Observatory Record’s mission statement, Sortof Vague has had a deeply fascinating and inspiring story over the last decade. Come Meow Wolf, expect to see a mess of people in a state of “Malfunktion” in an attempt to meet his “Crungus Mode” operatum.
