Moving through the nooks and crannies of the underground EDM scene with haste, Luxembourg-based producer Napoleon Gold has consistently made hypnotizing electronica, peppered with elements of R&B and hip-hop. Gold returns this month with his most recent single: a jaunty, effervescent composition titled “Lucid.”
“Lucid“ features the up and coming North Carolina emcee Jalen Santoy, as well as the LA-based pop songstress Madge, who both provide their own narrative over the melodic instrumental. The song begins with a vibrant display of lyricism paired with a melodic twang reminiscent of the neo-soul branch of hip-hop popularized by underground kings like St Louis’ very own Smino. The song then melts into the infectiously buoyant chorus, where Madge’s gentle vocals float seamlessly over Gold’s synthesized atmosphere.
Each artist present comes correct with their own unique vibes to supply, and manages to successfully bring forth the first taste of what’s to come for Napoleon Gold in 2019.
