Your resume needs to contain information that is current about your life and career. Also, an artist’s resume must be specific to a particular purpose. Below are successful ways to write an art resume:

  1. Writing Format
  • Contact Information – in this section, you need to include your name and contact information. Your name needs to be visible enough. You can either have it in bold or use uppercase letters. After your name, other details that you should include here are your mailing address, email address, phone number(s), and a personal website. The mailing address is optional. • Academic History/Education – your academic history is a crucial inclusion. While in this section, ensure that dates are on the left side. Your academic achievements should then appear on the right side. Another crucial addition is that you have to start with your latest achievement. If you are still in school, ensure that you showcase this as well. Use words such as “candidate” or “pending” in parenthesis to indicate you are yet to complete school. Do not use abbreviations while listing your former institutions or alma mater. You can, however, use abbreviations with the names of states. If your alma mater is outside the U.S., indicate at the end.
  • Honors and Grants – here is where you list your accomplishments. List your fellowships, awards, residencies, scholarships, honors, and grants in this section. However, the way you list them depends on the number of such accomplishments. For example, if you have several awards, you can choose to have a section for just awards. But, if they are not as many, include them with the rest of the awards.
  • Bibliography – there is a likelihood that some newspapers, magazines, books, or even catalogs will publish your works. Also, some television or radio shows could mention your works. In case this happens, you have to mention these in your resume. You may be able to impress your potential employer with such. So, do not leave them out.
  • Publications – this section is not any different from what is in the bibliography section. However, here, the focus is on any print media platform that may publish your works. If there are a few, list them together with the date of publication. Here is where you get to show critical reviews of your works. So, do not leave this section out. Have it separate if there are too many articles and reviews.
  • Presentations/Exhibitions –CV for artists must have this category. This is by far the most important section of your resume. You should have it near the top of because it includes all your listing exhibitions. A point to note here is that if your awards are not as many as your exhibition list then have your exhibition first. While listing your exhibitions, you need to have sections to help you capture the different categories. For example, you can have your solo exhibitions, collaborative projects, group exhibitions, or even two-person exhibitions. Remember, you are trying to make your service alluring. So, have some of your most impressive exhibitions in this section.
  • Radio or Television Experience – if you have some experience in radio or television, make sure you mention this as well. You may be on the radio discussing art or on television reviewing art. Or, you may have a YouTube channel that discusses art. Make sure you mention these as well. Remember, for an artist, your resume has to stand out. These sections are crucial and could take much of your time. You may have to pay someone to write essays for you as you work on your resume. Each section needs ample time to develop.
  • Professional Experience – this mainly involves any experience that relates to the field of art. You may have to limit the information you offer here because it is unnecessary to include all your employment history. So, focus on what is relevant to the position you are applying to. You should not feel any shame if your artist resume shows no experience. If you are in school, you may have little to share here. But, that is not a reason not to try your luck.
  • Additional Arts – do you have any additional arts other than the ones in the exhibition section? Well, if you do, you can have this section and include such works. Again, these sections are quite many and if your artist resume skills are wanting, try a platform that has experts. You do not have to overthink or plagiarize your resume. Seek help whenever you can. Ensure that you submit something that allows you entry into the interview room.
