Underground bass music is currently experiencing its renaissance era, and new artists find ways to wow us every week with fire releases. Kizer (Dylan Gendelman), an up-and-coming musician based in Denver, Colorado, is no exception. The Kizer project first debuted in 2017 and is beginning to create a solid foundation for success with releases on labels including Wubaholics and Partica Artist Group.
His first album, Off Beat Still Vibin’, premiered in 2021 to solid acclaim from listeners. Since then, he’s worked with scene staples like Wreckno and has released numerous EPs, singles, and collaborations with other exceptionally talented underground bass creators.
His newest EP, Ultra Move, is a fun, grimy foray into downtempo dub styles often heard at late-night festival stages and after parties. “Shlunk” introduces listeners to the EP and sets the tone with deep, earthy bass and some light but well-placed fairy tones. The title track, “Ultra Move,” picks up the 140-style pace while maintaining the crunchy vibes into “Stuntin’,” an otherworldly number with spooky vocal samples sprinkled throughout.
SoundCloud and Bandcamp users are treated to a special bonus track at the end, “Stabby,” a more upbeat single with samples from the iconic actress Kristen Schaal (Bob’s Burgers). This track is short but entertaining and finalizes the EP by showcasing some of Kizer’s range as an artist.
Denver-based fans can see Kizer perform with Bread Winner, OOGA, and more at the Black Box on December 8. Check out the “Ultra Move” below for a preview of what’s to come.
