After Four Years, G Jones Returns To Forge New ‘Paths’ with Daring LP

It’s been four years since G Jones last blessed us with an album, but the long wait is finally over.

After his rise to fame through iconic projects including Visions and 2018’s The Ineffable Truth, Greg Jones seemed to be going nowhere but up. Unfortunate setbacks like the crash of his hard drive in 2021, which resulted in the loss of dozens of songs and files, sent him on an unplanned hiatus for a while–but it didn’t keep him away forever.

His newest LP, Paths, feels like a true reintroduction to the G Jones project. He debuted the Paths album at his first headlining show at Red Rocks Amphitheater on October 15 with an intense audio-visual experience that left fans amazed and bewildered in the best way.

From the liminal introduction of “Familiar Frontiers” to the more experimental, harder-hitting tracks like “Dancing on the Edge” and “Which Way,” G Jones manages to take listeners all over the map while still telling a complete story. The beautiful piano melodies of “In My Room” are particularly touching and emotional. There are synth and bass lines that feel reminiscent of The Ineffable Truth, but they introduce new elements and patterns without feeling stale or dated.

G Jones has been a pioneer in glitch since his arrival on the scene, and Paths is no exception. There is something here for both old and new fans to enjoy, and these tracks are sure to sound incredible on live systems as they begin to be played out around the country.
