Bass heavyweights Ekali and 1788-L teamed up for their Colossal collaboration “R U I N,” and it’s out of this world.
Prepare yourself for this one, folks. Over the past few months, we’ve caught a few glimpses at the insane collaboration “R U I N” from Ekali and 1788-L. From a snippet in Ekali’s Awakening 6 Mix to live clips of an early demo dating back to Hard Summer 2018, the hype around the release only continued to grow. Illenium even treated fans to the unreleased bit recently with a live edit in epic fashion. Freshly released today, “R U I N” exceeds all expectations, perfectly mashing dark industrial bass with an explosive melodic drop.
“R U I N” opens with delicate strings and quickly descends into chaos, with 1788-L’s robotic glitches thrashing through the first drop. Layers of pads and strings mark the melodic shift, leading to a cosmic burst of massive chords and arpeggiators in the second drop. The final result is one of the more energetic and powerful collaborations we’ve heard in quite a while.
After 1788-L’s rapid rise in 2018 and Ekali’s sensational EP Crystal Eyes, it’s exciting and reassuring to see both artists continue to raise the bar. “R U I N” marks the first release of the year for each producer with plenty to look forward to in 2019, including a recently rumored collaboration between Ekali and Skrillex.
