Though his name might not be well-known to those outside the bass-osphere, British dubstep producer Shaun Brockhurst (Doctor P) should be listed with the heavy hitters in the electronic music world. Dubstep has become a formidable force over the past decade, and Brockhurst has been at the forefront of the worldwide movement. A true OG of his craft, Shaun got his start in Great Britain as a well-known drum and bass producer. In an interview with VIProducer , a software program for producers, Shaun stated that it wasn’t until around 2007 that his music shifted to his current sound, a sound that he says is hard to put into words:
“I don’t know how to describe it: very loud, energetic, annoying sounds. I started making crazy sounds, and people had never really heard them before.”
Shaun credits his influences from fellow dubstep producers such as Rusko, Datsik, and Flux Pavilion. There is something about dubstep that Shaun says makes him continue to love his craft:
“Dubstep is a cultural movement. I think it’s young people owning something. It’s similar to rock and roll. Young people were just excited to have something that was theirs.” (VIProducer)
As the British dubstep scene began to gain global steam, Doctor P was there to help usher it in. Since his breakout in 2007, Doctor P has produced countless hits including “Sweat Shop”, “Watch Out”, and “Tetris”. His record label, Circus Records, formed with fellow British dubstep superstar Flux Pavilion has become a world-renowned label. He’s collaborated with some of the biggest names in the game and continues to bring his heavy hitting bass music across the world. Doctor P’s Circus Records has been one the most influential dubstep record labels in the world, including the likes of Cookie Monsta, DISKORD, FuntCase, Dr. Meaker and Flux Pavillion.
