Champagne Drip Puts A Melodic Spin On Experimental Bass With New EP [Listen]

Champagne Drip‘s Obelisk EP Captures WAKAAN‘s mantra of “weird and wonderful” by merging unearthly sound design with harmonious melodies.

The result is a new take on the producer’s signature “driphop” sound. Obelisk opens with “Nerf This,” a tune that begins playfully with arcade-like beeps and bloops, but quickly descends into madness. Snares crash, bass-synths womp, and a mid-register siren screeches. This track is a two-sided coin: a children’s arcade and hell’s arcade.

Argent Energy” stomps and smacks listeners to and fro, while “The Portal” transports listeners into a twisted jungle ritual. In both tracks, Champagne Drip‘s impeccable sound design and complimenting melodies demand both attention and movement.

“Axis Mundi” wraps up the EP in a grand fashion. Elegant pads drape the track in a fog while arpeggiations stretch and transform an otherwise subtle synth into a meteor barreling through the sky.
