Breakaway Carolina returns to the Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend with more stages, talent, and production.
The independently owned festival’s ninth year in Charlotte will be its biggest yet. It has grown from three stages to five, and the festival grounds have expanded to make room for more vendors, art, and activations.
The headliners are Kettama, Chris Lake, Tiësto, and Cloonee B2B Chris Lorenzo.
While the main acts are House- and Techno-focused, the lineup also includes Bass- and Trap-heavyweights like San Holo, Daily Bread, and TroyBoi.

Behind the New Stages
Breakaway Carolina is introducing two new stages this year: The L.A.B and The Block.
The L.A.B unlocks a new section of the festival map, which fans will access through a tunnel before dancing the night away under the stage’s massive tent structure. L.A.B stands for Leave it All Behind, which is exactly what festival-goers plan to do for two nights of exploring and dancing.
The Block is a new collaboration with Beatport to give rising artists in the electronic music scene a platform to perform. Beatport conceptualized the mobile shipping container stage in the U.K. festival circuit last year. Now, the international music and media brand has shipped the container to the States for three Breakaway stops: Atlanta, Charlotte, and Houston.
Organizers describe The Block as an, “artist discovery platform designed to identify and elevate emerging DJ talent through open submissions, regional competitions, and curated programming.”
Breakaway and Beatport held a DJ competition before the festival, and the prize is a spot on The Block’s lineup. The Carolina winners are Gyro and Angel XO.
The Block’s mission melds perfectly with Breakaway’s ethos of immersing itself in each city’s community and uplifting local artists. Breakaway has long supported local acts through promotional pre-parties leading up to the festival and a Silent Disco stage.

Breakaway Carolina has grown immensely since its inception in 2017. In its early years, it was a one-stage event in the AvidXchange Music Factory complex. Now, the festival spans across the Charlotte Motor Speedway with a whopping five stages.
As the Charlotte region continues to grow, Breakaway is meeting the rising demand for more live music, while bringing local talent and international superstars along for the ride.
