The Sounds
BackLeft
Punting neuro-frosted glitchscapes across nebulous harmonies and domesplitting drum patterns, BackLeft is a producer who has engineered a flavored sonic profile.
Upon examination of his Gene Driver EP, we are met by a designer who styles sounds with sharp definition and cutting allure giving him a non-replicable nature adored by artists and fans alike.
As our headliner for the night, the Denver musician represents a league of young pioneers currently leaving their mark on the world of glitch-hop and left-field bass music.
Fika
When it comes to Fika’s far-flung batch of low-end bass music, he keeps one hand tethered to tradition while wading way out into terrestrial frequencies of his own devise. His keen ability to transfuse influences from some of the best – Jade Cicada, Mickman, Detox Unit – with his own peculiar production methods has led to a rarefied breed of bass that leaves speakers foaming.
No stranger to the Black Box, Fika has flexed their system on many occasions. As direct support for the night, expect the voracious producer to come in swinging.
hokey boi
Our first West Coast particle disruptor we will be welcoming aboard the ship next week is hokey boi. Engineering his own trademark sound within the realm of chunky and marbled bass music, the San Diego-based producer approaches beat-making with an aggressive imagination that reveals itself in his arrangement and design. Oscillating textures, mangled basslines, and razor-sharp production all contribute to his one-of-a-kind ethos.
Harnessing the momentum from a recent support play alongside Ooga, hokey boi is feeling hot right now and ready to eviscerate The Black Box come 11/9.
Absolem
From the trees of Eugene, Oregon, Absolem is a rising force in the PNW bass realm quickly proving his skills in the studio and on the stage. Only 20 years old, the young producer has grown roots across exotic glitch-hop and downtempo canopies all while perfecting his nuanced flair. Influenced by iconic groups like A Tribe Called Quest as much as he’s influenced by the experimental sounds of Slug Wife, Absolem has harnessed a unique flow that beckons and ricochets within every bar.
Closing out the festivities for the night, Absolem will ride the high provided by our headliner into an outro fit with all the bells, whistles, and fireworks you’d expect.
smokeA:M
Exacting basslines and chiseling melodies from the murkiest realms of left-field bass, smokeA:M is a riotous producer capable of pushing any system to its limits. Tracks like “squiggle fission” and “Lethal Weapon” epitomize the crunchy, neuro-laced ethers that arrival. believes are shaping the future of glitch-hop and experimental bass as we know it. With a modest catalog and newly rostered on Open Sky Records, this young producer has only just begun to harness his potential.
As the opener for our launch party, don’t expect this sonic contortionist to settle in lightly. Leaving no measure left unbitten and every note as buoyant as the next, smokeA:M’s set on 11/9 at The Black Box will come soaked in gasoline.
The Sights
Seity
The chief visual curator for the night and headlining VJ is Seity, a chromatic cartographer who has quickly made a name for himself as a digital artist. Laying down glossy layers of hi-tech geometry and transdimensional animations has captured the attention of some of the top producers in the industry.
This has led to him to some of the most coveted stages in the scene such as Infrasound, Cervantes, and ofcourse, The Black Box. Matched up with our headlining artist for the night, BackLeft, we are expecting Seity to pull out all of his tricks and maybe even debut a few new ones.
kloudkin
The second supporting VJ of the night is the prism-shifting pixel pusher known as kloudkin. Transposing otherworldly geometrics alongside staggering color palettes, kloudkin’s creations are explosively detailed. Mechanized elves blend with rippling 3D structures, crafting a Middle-Earth-meets-Ex Machina universe that is highly evocative of fantastical realms beyond.
From Infrasound, Secret Dreams, Cervantes, and now to The Black Box, kloudkin will be dealing strictly in the art of transportation this weekend.
THEE N
The final supporting VJ for the night is the Denver-based digital provocateur known as THEE N. Complex matrices, swirling particles, and neo-modernist androids are just a few of the core ingredients that comprise his compositions. Paired with smokeA:M, this will be the THEE N’s live debut.
Although new to the stage, this practiced visualist has put in the time and energy to command a screen and we are hyped to see him break into the mix.
What’s Next?
The next big move for arrival. following the launch party will be the aforementioned compilation album coming out in December. While this first show and compilation album leans heavily into glitch hop and neuro-influenced bass music, the label has intentions of exploring every sector of electronic music and beyond including downtempo, IDM, and genres that have yet to be defined.
