In order for the music scene to grow, new frontiers must be explored.
As Annapolis Baygrass Festival continues to venture into uncharted waters, with the third iteration of their highly-adored, locally grown, and community-oriented music festival, so too does River Beats Dance, with one of our first bluegrass and jam-focused features.
For the 2025 iteration of the festival, River Beats Dance is privileged to get the chance to experience everything that makes this Maryland-based music festival so special.
Below, we highlight a few of our most anticipated acts, plus a couple of immersions that have made this one of our most highly anticipated events of the year.
Greensky Bluegrass
A group that needs no introduction, Greensky Bluegrass has been helping define the progressive bluegrass hemisphere for the past 25 years. Although Live At Bells in 2007 may have lit the match for Greensky’s emblazoned career, this crew out of Kalamazoo has been pouring gasoline on the bonfire since the first strings they plucked.
Since then, they’ve cast their trademark anthems from Red Rocks to The Ryman, exploring avenues of every variety along the way. Performing two sets, from 7:30-10:15 PM, you can catch them on the Baygrass Stage Saturday night.
Kitchen Dwellers
PC: Stew Bixcube
The galaxy grass conquistadors, sonic psychedelia improvisationists, and stringed quartet known as Kitchen Dwellers have been shredding symphonies of face-stealing melodies and mind-altering combinations for the past 15 years.
No stranger to the tides at Sandy Point State Park, Kitchen Dwellers will be returning to the very same shores they lit up last year, at the 2024 edition of Annapolis Baygrass Festival. Catch the cosmic connection they plan on composing from 6:00-7:30 PM on Day 1 of the festival at the “Every Jam Saves the Bay Stage.”
Grateful Ball
PC: Jay Strausser
If you want emotion, if you want nostalgia, if you want a damn good time, find yourself at the grand ol’ Grateful Ball, from 5:00-6:15 PM on Day 2 of the festival, at the Baygrass Stage. Initially founded by members of the Travelin’ McCoury’s and Jeff Austin, the creatives behind this project and the art they brought to the world seem to have helped inspire the very roots of Annapolis Baygrass Festival in more ways than one.
As one of the most potent providers of jamgrass-infused Grateful Dead covers, we expect them to be supplying a solid dose of psychedelic jams and long-roasted rippers for the entirety of their set.
Sunny Skies at Sandy Point State Park
The reason why humans are drawn to the water is the same reason humans are drawn to good music. It’s in our nature. It’s an unexplainable feeling, so I won’t take the time to try. And neither will Annapolis Baygrass Festival. They will simply let you experience it for yourself, with two beachside stages on the sunny shores of Sandy Point State Park to accompany their expertly curated lineup.
“At Baygrass, the energy of the crowd and the setting on the Chesapeake remind us why we do this.”
Ron Peremel, Founder & CEO
Those familiar with Maryland’s Capital City, Annapolis, know very well how magical this area is, especially this time of year. For two days out of the year, Annapolis Baygrass Festival invites folks from all over to not only enjoy this special place of ours, but to help protect and restore it as well.
Every Jam Saves the Bay (NPO Involvement)
The festival doesn’t take its beautiful destination for granted. As they help proliferate the world of bluegrass and jam, they are also taking part in the restoration and redevelopment of the environment around them. With a portion of every ticket, beverage, snack, and t-shirt going to their non-profit partners, such as the Oyster Recovery Partnership, the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, and the Watershed Stewards Academy, attendees are invited to rejoice in nature as they simultaneously help rebuild it.
“These are all great organizations that do this hard work, and I’m just trying to do my part and our part to educate people about them. Then help them with some of the funding that we provide through every drink and every oyster sold.”
Ron Peremel, Founder & CEO
Few festivals in this day and age can say they are actively contributing to the ecosystem like Annapolis Baygrass Festival is, which, in our opinion, is enough to call them the most environmentally friendly music festival on the East Coast.
Aside from the environment around them, Annapolis Baygrass Festival is also interested in growing the minds around them. Especially those of future generations.
Providing a family-friendly environment and a Kidzone, with activities like kaleidoscope construction, puppet making, sand art, face painting, and workshops of all kinds, Annapolis Baygrass Festival has created a space to educate and inspire the artists of tomorrow.
While the acts and immersions mentioned above are all can’t miss stops on our schedule, Annapolis Baygrass Festival is an event where every attendee can enjoy their own indivudlaized experience. Whether it’s slurping oysters, sipping on microbrews, or high-stepping on the sunny shores of Sandy Point State Park, there is one place you can catch us this weekend, September 20-21, and that’s Annapolis Baygrass Festival.
