There was a time when New Music Friday was a weekly tradition at River Beats Dance. Every Friday, we’d round up ten albums, EPs, or singles we couldn’t stop listening to. Then electronic music exploded, and suddenly ten songs a week wasn’t nearly enough. We did this on Twitter, too, where we would post our favorite releases. It was beloved, but if there is one constant thing, it’s change in music publications.
We shifted to a monthly roundup, highlighting our favorite songs, albums, and EPs. That worked for a while, too. But as more music was released than ever before, and as the way people discover music shifted from blogs to streaming platforms, it became harder to keep up.
Lately, I’ve realized I miss that personal touch. I miss sharing the releases that have been on repeat, regardless of genre, label, or hype. So instead of trying to cover every release, I’m bringing it back to something much simpler.

Maybe this becomes a monthly feature again. Maybe it happens whenever inspiration strikes.
