Yoshi Flower Drops Emotive 'I Will Not Let My Love Go To Waste' Mixtape [Listen]

Genre-bending artist Yoshi Flower just dropped his newest mixtape I Will Not Let My Love Go To Waste.

Detroit-bred and LA-based Yoshi Flower burst onto the scene with his single “Movies” in 2018, flexing his versatility as a singer-songwriter in alternative pop and R&B along the way with noteworthy singles like “Dirty Water” and “Woke.” Those standout singles and many more tracks find their home on Yoshi Flower’s I Will Not Let My Love Go To Waste.

The tape comes after an eye-opening moment for Yoshi Flower, real name Josh Smith, as he explains:

“Half way through making this project I woke up in the hospital. I’ll spare the details, I’m not here to glorify self-destruction. I had made some stupid decisions that led me to rethink my second chance at life. I didn’t want to let my love go to waste. These songs are a collection of confrontation; how we change as people and how we deal with love, heartbreak, depression, addiction, and the extreme gamut of existence.”-Yoshi Flower

First things first, we’re thankful Yoshi Flower came out on top of his struggle. Lifted from the single “Rolling Thunder“, the mantra I Will Not Let My Love Go To Waste perfectly captures his renewed intention.

I Will Not Let My Love Go To Waste is genre-bending throughout, with Yoshi delivering thirteen distinctive tracks. The tape’s opening track “Falling Apart” serves as an appropriate introduction to everything Yoshi Flower. Trap percussion bolsters reverb-drenched vocal melodies and acoustic guitar as Yoshi immediately lays it all on the table.

The upbeat and feel-good single “Rolling Thunder” feels like a bridge from his debut tape American Raver to present day Yoshi and has been a staple in his live sets just as long. Needless to say, it’s arguably my favorite release from Yoshi to date. Love-hungry tracks like “More” and recent single “Martyr” lean more alternative R&B, while tracks like “These Daze” and “Woke” carry a more aggressive trap influence. In any case, on IWNLMLGTW, Yoshi Flower likely delivers something you’ve never heard before and won’t soon forget.

Along with the tape, Yoshi Flower announced new North American tour dates for March 2020 in support of the release. More information and tickets are available here.
