After a string of captivating singles, Berlin-based sibling duo TWO LANES have released their newest EP Lights in full. The six track EP, out today on San Holo’s Bitbird imprint, takes the duo’s sound to new frontiers, drawing more heavily on techno and introspective electronic elements than the indie-electronic sound that first caught fans’ attention.

The EP builds on the early 2020 singles “Wide Awake“, “Closer“, and “Never Enough“. Lights opens with the title track by the same name, with a gently grooving arpeggio and piano interplay that feel akin to a Kiasmos rinse. “Lights’” gentle guitar give the track a decidedly warm feel, which the duo revisit throughout the EP with a mix of live instrumentation and analog synths. Speaking on the “The Rest is Noise“, TWO LANES adds:

“We started out by recording some guitar patterns and combining it with various sounds from our Prophet REV2 synthesiser. We made this track last winter and when we listen back now, it brings back memories of being in the studio and working on music during dark winter days..”

– TWO LANES

Light follows TWO LANES through a transitional period, with the duo penning some of the tracks in the Berlin home studio, while others were finalized in Los Angeles pre-COVID. The EP follows remixes of DROELOE’sOATH” and RÜFÜS DU SOL‘sNew Sky” released earlier this year, as well as their 2019 EP Drifting on Lowly.
