English singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Tourist, known as William Phillips, has unveiled his latest single, ‘Second Nature,’ now available via his own label, Monday Records.
Following his previous release, ‘A Little Bit Further,’ ‘Second Nature’ is a fresh, euphoric, and atmospheric track that showcases Tourist’s unique take on Grizzly Bear’s ‘About Face.’ He explains,
“I aimed to craft something simultaneously disorienting and enjoyable. My admiration for Grizzly Bear inspired me to create something entirely unexpected. It’s gratifying when artists appreciate their music being sampled and are open to sharing it.”
Drawing from a diverse range of influences, Tourist crafts a distinctive and unmistakable sonic landscape, blending string and piano riffs, harmonious vocal swells, and fuzzy downtempo electronic beats that seamlessly merge into a listening journey. This is music that transports you to another world.
Following the success of his previous album, ‘Inside Out,’ which garnered acclaim from music media outlets such as Clash, Bandcamp, This Song Is Sick, Stoney Roads, Music Tech, and more, the UK-based producer embarked on a world tour, captivating audiences with his live performances.
‘Inside Out’ was a deeply personal album, born during the COVID-19 pandemic, marked by the loss of a close friend, and the joyous arrival of his daughter. In response to these intertwined emotions, Tourist created an album filled with tender and uplifting swinging garage grooves, chunky basslines, and French filter house melodies.
Entering his eleventh year as Tourist, he continues to leave his mark in the music industry, remixing tracks for artists like Flume, Christine and the Queens, Wolf Alice, Deftones, CHVRCHES, Sophia Koutesis, Swedish House Mafia, and The Weeknd. With no signs of slowing down, Tourist has grown year after year, achieving milestones like winning a Grammy, co-writing ‘Stay With Me’ for Sam Smith, selling out concert dates, and performing at renowned festivals.
