Tinlicker Delivers Emotional Depth and Evolution with ‘Cold Enough For Snow’ [Listen]

Tinlicker, the Dutch electronic duo made up of Micah Heyboer and Jordi van Achthoven, has once again captivated the music world with the release of their third album, Cold Enough For Snow. The 13-track LP is a deep exploration of emotional complexity, encompassing themes of love, yearning, loneliness, and acceptance.

From the opening track, “Glasshouse,” featuring the haunting vocals of Julia Church, to the ethereal “This Life” with Tom Smith, Cold Enough For Snow brings together an impressive lineup of collaborators. Each vocalist adds a unique layer to the album, enhancing its emotional depth and complexity. One of the standout features of the album is Tinlicker’s ability to seamlessly blend melodic elements with harder, more techno-driven sounds. Tracks like “In Your Eyes” and “Revolution” venture into club-ready, pulsating beats, while songs such as “Strawberry” take an unconventional approach, featuring an orchestral arrangement that forgoes beats entirely.

Thematically, Cold Enough For Snow is about change — both personal and artistic. The title itself serves as a metaphor for moments when everything has the potential to shift.

In conjunction with the album, Tinlicker has embraced live performance as a major part of their touring approach, departing from their earlier focus on DJ sets. This shift gives their fans a more intimate and personal experience, one that highlights their live musical skills. Both Heyboer and van Achthoven have a background in drumming, and they now aim to integrate that live element into their performances. The duo’s European tour kicked off in early 2023, with plans to bring their immersive live show to the United States, including Mission Ballroom.

Tinlicker’s ability to take risks, both in their music and career decisions, has clearly paid off with Cold Enough For Snow. As they continue to push boundaries in the world of electronic music, it’s safe to say that this album will stand as one of their most defining works to date.
