Synth-Pop Band CHVRCHES Give Energetic Set in D.C. [Gallery]

Scottish synth-pop band CHVRCHES rolled through Washington, D.C.’s The Anthem last week. The group is currently touring the United States in support of their newest album Love Is Dead.

An Upbeat Set

The eighteen-song setlist started with single “Get Out” and included fan-favorites from older LPs such as “Gun” and “The Mother We Share.” The crowd danced from the first note to the last. Their set was upbeat and had the crowd singing along (and even head-banging). Above all, the band kept the energy high.

Lead singer Lauren Mayberry ran across the stage throughout the set, getting fans excited. However, she wasn’t the only singer that night as band member Martin Doherty joined Mayberry’s energy, running and twirling across the stage as the lead vocalist on “Under The Tide.”

A Personal Touch

We’ve got a special relationship with this city,” Mayberry said, arousing cheers from fans. When she asked who attended their first show at D.C.’s The Black Cat, numerous hands raised. It is a testament to their success that CHVRCHES is playing venues approximately 9x the size of those on their first tour.

Mayberry charmed the crowd throughout the show, taking moments here and there to discuss everything from stage outfits to pink eye.

I feel like tonight is maybe a night where we can just escape that bullshit,” Mayberry said. “For an hour and a half we can be the Powerpuff version of ourselves.

These fan interactions made the show feel intimate and personal despite the 6000-person capacity that The Anthem features.

If you’re interested in an evening of good, synth-driven vibes, go get tickets to see CHVRCHES.
