If there’s anything that supermodel Heidi Klum is known for outside of dominating the runway, it’s her fearless attitude that drives her to pursue multiple endeavors.
Since the start of her career in 1992, the celeb has ventured into hosting, producing, fashion, performing, and events. Over the last 24 years, the 51-year-old has also been a successful event creator via her annual Halloween parties. While 100% of the event’s proceeds go toward supporting different charities, the latest of which was Art for Life, which supports disadvantaged youths, the model’s costumes regularly go viral. This year, she and her husband, Tom Kaulitz, dressed up in elaborate animatronic E.T. getups.
Aside from these, though, Heidi has also dipped into yet another creative outlet. Earlier this year, she released a cover of the 80s hit “Sunglasses at Night” with help from Tiësto. In usual Klum fashion, the celebrity released the cover with matching video content and clever marketing efforts.
A contemporary twist on an 80s classic
Originally released in 1984, “Sunglasses at Night” just celebrated its 40th anniversary. Sang by Canadian crooner Corey Hart, the song peaked at number seven on the Billboard Charts. According to Klum’s press release, she decided to cover the single after she was inspired by “…the moment in the middle of the night at a party when you have been up way too late, your makeup has melted off, you are sweaty and cross-eyed, and all you crave is a pair of sunglasses.” On Instagram, the original singer gave his own stamp of approval, congratulating Heidi on her cover.
To add a modern-day take, Dutch DJ and producer Tiësto provided the cover’s beat. An in-demand artist in his own right, Tiësto has been busy with key collabs this year, with another recent one with Hedex and BassLayerz. In celebration of its release, Heidi also shared several videos across her social media pages. This included an official visualizer on YouTube. Additionally, she ran a raffle on TikTok, wherein fans could win a pair of Yves Saint Laurent shades. A luxury brand, Saint Laurent (as it’s also called for short) is known for having some of the most in-demand eyewear designs. Currently, this brand is among the high-end selection of women’s sunglasses on top retailer LensCrafters. Recognized as a trusted platform for other luxury fashion houses like Burberry and Versace, its eyewear selections are carefully curated and vetted. In order to win their own pair, fans had to post tagged videos showing how they wear their own sunglasses at night.
What’s next for Heidi Klum’s music career?
Currently, the star has yet to say if her cover is the start of a more dedicated foray into music. In the past, she has dabbled in singing, although these have been few and far apart. In 2006, she released her debut single, Wonderland, which was created for a series of TV ads for popular retailer Douglas. In Klum’s native country of Germany, Douglas is known for selling high-end products from brands like Tom Ford, Guerlain, and Dior. A year later, in 2007, Heidi was also featured in ex-husband Seal’s album System. Aside from this, she’s happily showcased her vocal chops outside of professional recording studios, as well. In 2016, Heidi flexed her yodeling skills on television. During a guest spot on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Klum yodeled a folksy German tune, much to the delight of the audience and host.
Of course, given Klum’s track record of consistently chasing after creative outlets, a more formal attempt at being a singer would not be amiss.
