French phenomenon Petit Biscuit dropped his newest single “Wide Awake” this week, continuing his hot streak of stellar singles.
Petit Biscuit has been awfully generous to fans as of late. Following two recent singles “Suffer” and “Safe,” Petit Biscuit aka Mehdi Benjelloun kicks off 2019 in a big way with “Wide Awake.”
The track is intense and stimulating, with Petit Biscuit trading harsh glitches and soft melodies back and forth. Benjelloun’s warm vocals soften up the middle of the track, giving the single a solidly indie-pop feel before the bass cuts back in. The dynamic creates a unique contrast, as he further explains:
“I wanted ‘Wide Awake’ to be a track that defies genres…it encompasses an audacious blend of my world music and chill universe, that ends up completely broken up by bass music. Like a relentless battle between nature and digital.”-Petit Biscuit
Petit Biscuit adds to the concept with an incredible music video directed by Quentin Deronzier and Scott McPherson. In the video, the lines between the analog and digital worlds continue to blur; the result is a strange realm where reality slowly begins to tear itself apart from the digital domain.
“Wide Awake” shows fearless experimentation like the spectacular singles that preceded it. Petit Biscuit continues to raise the bar and challenge the boundaries of his style, creating some of the most exciting chillwave tunes around.
With his outstanding recent releases, our eyes are on Petit Biscuit to have a huge year in 2019. You can catch him on the road for select festival appearances this year, including San Francisco’s sold out Noise Pop Festival and CRSSD Fest in San Diego. More information is available here.
