The Kiwi and French titans of glitch-hop toured Australia together earlier this year before the global COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, their Red Rocks double-header still very much hangs in the balance. That hasn’t stopped the production duo from pushing out titillating releases, however.
Opiuo and CloZee now follow up their 2020 Red Rocks mixtape with a mid-tempo delight. The track, titled “Bam Bam,” is out now via Slurp Music. Clocking in at nearly five-and-a-half-minutes, the highly-anticipated collaboration strikes the perfect balance between Opiuo’s funk-fueled approach and CloZee’s world-infused approach to glitch.
On one side sits Opiuo’s signature horns, intoxicating psychedelic chords, and growling, gurgling basslines. On the other is CloZee’s tribal chants, popping top lines, and brilliant builds. Together, they mount the perfect fusion of styles that are wholly distinctive and yet completely complementary and fluid. “Bam Bam” is one track fans are surely anticipating to hear while floating atop the Mile High.
Opiuo and CloZee’s dual headlining Red Rocks show, which is slated to take place on May 28 in Morrison, Colorado, is one of the few May events still on the docket. However, with the Denver Mayor issuing a stay-at-home order in place through April 30, that date is being closely monitored by venue staff and public officials.
