Flintwick Incites Zoomies from the Dance Floor to Home Listeners with New EP: ‘Slingshot’

Well, folks: The three-tailed cat is out of the bag. With the year approaching its finale, neuro-hop menace and multi-instrumentalist Flintwick has released the eagerly awaited Slingshot EP, five tracks of inimitable dance-floor bass armed to fend off the approach of winter with warm waves of riotous movement.

River Beats told you to keep your eyes and ears locked on Flintwick in last year’s 30 Artists to Watch, and the Arkansan artist did not disappoint. Since the ferocious Lurching EP of 2024, the producer has released a tangy slipglitch single called “Bonker Sauce” as well as “Love Cadre,” a collaboration with Freddy Todd that spawned out of the two artists’ B2B at Sound Haven.

After a stacked year of tour dates, Flintwick has spent this past year focusing on studio time while still managing to spread his sound with appearances at festivals like Secret Dreams, Terp Float Oklahoma, and Beyond Existence, all while selling out shows with his psychedelic Western side-project Acid Katz, a collaboration with LuSiD.

2025 has also seen the artist honing the new iteration of Brady Cagle Solo; this improvisational set features a variety of string instruments with downtempo beats and eccentric field recordings, an in-person rendition of his trademark Instagram reels.

Slingshot: What’s Inside

With Slingshot, Flintwick once again marks his territory as a livewire of loony experimental glitch mixed with a bewildering blend of phonography and instrumentation.

The first track, “Planted”, is a tight and buoyant rager of sharp scrambles and troglodytic bell-capped womps, setting a tone of conflagratory energy that holds its flame throughout the EP.

“Slingshot” balls that same energy into an apt title track, building on undulating waves of tension and release that make listeners feel like a bungee jumper caught in high-flying heaves of rhythm and motion.

The next two tracks, “Wombat” and “Cattywampus,” were both released as singles leading up to the EP’s full drop.

Scattered with funky vocal samples, staggering synths, buoyant bubbles, invigorating tempo shifts, and a range of bass lines from groovy to aggressive, these two halftime bangers made their presence known to full effect on dancefloors long before reaching the ears of home listeners.

The final song, “Cute Loris,” opens with a 50-second development of melodic tinkles textured with titillating wisps and subtle bass before exploding into a cavalcade of grimy neuro squawks, echoic footfalls, birdcalls, and tin-like jungle drums, combined for a proper finale of diabolical energy that closes the EP with a crisp sonic bow.
