The new five track EP from Toulouse-based electronic producers ELSE is a can’t miss.
Producer duo Else recently released the first of their two-part series Sequence. The five-track EP is a captivating step forward for the duo, whose uniquely French brand of electro and introspective house continues to evolve.
Earlier this year, I covered their impressive single release “Night Thoughts“, which included a visual from French directors Adrien Lagier and Ousmane Ly that paired perfectly with the duo’s cinematic soundscapes. Else then struck gold a second time on the visual for the EP’s second single “Back to 8“, collaborating again with the renowned directors and ensuring that Sequence, Pt. 1 would be worth the wait.
Sequence, Pt. 1 delivers strongly from the opening moments of “Origine“, where intense chords and sparkling soundscapes trade spaces with rising arpeggios. The duo also moves into more experimental areas with their airy percussion and instrumentation; on “Twelve“, the track’s rhythmic sequence and vocal samples have the haunting full-moon night quality of Jamie xx.
The EP marks the third from the duo after previous releases Pacific and Mirage in 2016 and 2013, respectively. Be sure to stay tuned for the second half of the powerful two part series Sequence.
