Dance duo Else break their 2019 silence with an outstanding visual for their brand new single “Night Thoughts.“
Today, Toulouse-based Else deliver an atmospheric house track “Night Thoughts” along with a stunning music video directed by renowned French directors Adrien Lagier and Ousmane Ly, putting a dramatic and dark twist on the otherwise introspective upbeat single.
“Night Thoughts” appears deceivingly calm with the repetitive string melody opening. The track’s Bonobo-esque bassline and organic percussive accents provides a danceable foundation as the melodic elements slowly evolve, but its cutting synth and triplet groove abruptly flip the track on its head.
The music video narrows in on actor Yassine Stein and director Ousmane Ly‘s warped perspective of the American Dream. Though the video’s cinematic quality compliments the track’s warmer tones, the underlying theme is much darker. Stein and Ly carry out a robbery on the beach before riding off into the sunset, and California’s picturesque backdrop serves as a heavy contrast to the duo’s crimes, revelry and ultimate demise.
The single marks the first release from Else’s upcoming two-part EP Sequence. If “Night Thoughts” is any indication, we’re in for quite a treat from the French duo.
