In a special appearance exclusive to Tulum 2024, the renowned South African artist Black Coffee will join forces with Lazarus for a legendary back-to-back performance, carrying the energy from night to sunrise, culminating the festival. This showcase follows their successful residency at Hï Ibiza during the summer, a widely acclaimed event on the island.
The customary opening ceremony of Day Zero will set the stage for groundbreaking performances, featuring an eclectic and thrilling lineup. Among the billed artists are DJ Tennis, the founder of Life and Death; Seth Troxler, a champion of Detroit’s scene; Acid Pauli, a trailblazer of avant-garde music; UK’s own Skream; and underground fixture Dennis Cruz.
Setting a precedent as the first international festival in Mexico with a dedicated stage for local artists, Day Zero will once again provide a platform for visionary Mexican talents on the El Teatro stage. This lineup encompasses past Day Zero participant and stage curator Métrika, advocate for the queer underground Mystery Affair, Mandrake, founder of M.N. Roy, Monterrey’s Kalexis Nocheydia, Sooscaveman, Cabizbajo, and the audiovisual duo Shiro Schwarz.
In Lazarus’ words:
“For the 11th edition of Day Zero Tulum, I aimed to introduce a dynamic mix of familiar faces and new talents. Across the three stages nestled in the jungle, our goal is to present an unparalleled amalgamation of music, performance, and art. And, exclusively for our region, we’re privileged to host Black Coffee, who will join me for an unforgettable back-to-back session at sunrise. I’m eagerly looking forward to opening the doors and blowing minds on January 12th.”
Traversing both the physical and spiritual domains, Day Zero beckons revelers on a marathon odyssey through the avant-garde. Ancient Mayan rituals, local guides’ performances, and captivating production technology meld seamlessly into the lush jungle backdrop, offering an enchanting fusion of modern and mythical elements.
Sustainability initiatives
Echoing the reverence of the Mayans for the Earth and its resources, Day Zero embodies a profound respect for the environment, underscored by the Crosstown Consciousness initiative. Through a partnership with Mexican company Petgas, all production waste is converted into fuel to power the event, while the recycling program sets a new benchmark for sustainable event operations in the region.
