A Self-Reflective Journey With Verzache’s ‘Thought Pool’ EP [Listen]

Indie-trap crossover artist Verzache (Zach Farache) beautifully delivers raw introspection on his newest 8-song EP Thought Pool.

Toronto-based producer/singer-songwriter Verzache has stayed under the radar making waves for most of 2018. As a student of Soundcloud-era experimentation, Verzache holds a solid catalog of self-penned ballads and deep cuts that continually blur the lines between indie and future trap.

On both sides of his 2017 EP D97, Verzache’s releases emphasized mostly acoustic elements and warm vocals, giving fans a deeply personal look into Verzache’s mind. On Thought Pool, Verzache shows just how far his sound has come. Ukelele-infused bass and unembellished vocals detail a journey navigating his ever-changing social circle, love life, and struggle to always follow his gut.

Thought Pool is incredibly diverse in its production and style. In “Some Things,” the melodic-trap leading track, Verzache contemplates his values versus his peers, stating Never been the same since I left high school / ‘Lotta less friends with a ‘lotta less rules / Now I’m on the fence tryna’ find my truth / All I wanna know is I’m ’bout to get used. The energy picks up on “Summertime,” with ad-libs and layered melodies topping groovy hand percussion and guitar strums.

Verzache explores his own isolation in “Alright,” landing on a bit of optimism before letting loose on the second half of “Kick It,” where he fights second thoughts about breaking out. On the final two tracks, “Fallback” and “Mind Games,” Verzache approaches his deep thoughts with some renewed sense of self-understanding, closing the EP with the lyrics “Broken, hurt but I’m open.”

Verzache’s stunning sophomore effort is one of the most underrated and impressive projects of the year. Don’t let Thought Pool slip by; give a listen to the EP below:
