Synth-pop band St. Lucia brought their Hyperion Tour to the famous 9:30 Club in D.C. last week.
The group is touring in support of their most recent LP: Hyperion. The two-night stint in D.C. gave hundreds of fans the chance to see the upbeat album live. St. Lucia has a history of performing happy, colorful sets and last week’s was no different. They played older hits such as “Closer Than This,” “Dancing On Glass,” and “Elevate,” as well as newer tracks like “A Brighter Love.” The set was well-balanced from beginning to end.

Grobler and band member Patti Beranek (keyboards, percussion, vocals) married in 2012 and welcomed their first son this year. He compared the music creation experience to having a baby. “The whole process of having a child while making album. They’re kind of like twins,” said Grobler before breaking into “Bigger,” which is written for him.

The crowd danced and sang, feeding off St. Lucia’s energy. From the balconies to the GA floor, the crowd felt the love that the band clearly has for their music. Whether singing their hearts out during “Dancing On Glass” or cheering as Grobler walked around the crowd for “Love Somebody,” fans were happy. Even those in the room who did not know every song by these synth-pop darlings swayed with a smile.
