It’s hot guys, really hot. This midwestern bug wasn’t quite prepared for the heat of the swamp once I got down here. And why does it stay so hot so late into the night?? Thank god for the New Orleans pools though. If you can manage to work around the imminent afternoon rainstorms, relaxing at the pool can be the perfect cure to your summer swamp blues.
These are our favorite New Orleans pools for summertime swimming:
The Drifter Hotel
This Midcity gem has been steadily gaining popularity over the course of the summer. Partially thanks to their noteworthy events, local DJs, poolside yoga, and newly installed hot pink astroturf.
The Drifter’s poolside bar sits in the courtyard of the quaint hotel digs. Daily entry ranges from $10 – $15, with event tickets going for a bit more. Frequent swimmers can purchase a surf club pass for $299 a year or $199 for service industry workers.

Alto at the Ace Hotel
The Alto is the Ace Hotel’s swanky rooftop bar in the heart of the Central Business District. Weekdays offer locals “free entry,” as long as you spent at least $20 on food and beverages. Weekends bring a flat $20 cover charge.
Alto is primarily for the Ace hotel guests, so be sure to get their early if you don’t want to get turned away. Regular pool hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Country Club
The Country Club is a restaurant in the Bywater that has become a local cult favorite. Self-described as the “best-kept secret” in New Orleans, the restaurant offers quality food and drinks in a “bohemian escape” from the hustle of the city.
The poolside cabana and bar has been a local favorite for over 40 years. Passes are $15 for a day of $299 for an annual pass.
