Live Nation Will Ban Single-Use Plastics At Venues & Music Festivals By 2021

Plastic waste: it’s something that we see everywhere we turn, especially at a music festival. Though people actively try to combat this issue, when you place 25,000-50,000 people in one area, trash is inevitable. Water bottles litter the ground, as do food trays, plastic straws, and single-use cups. It’s a serious issue that needs to be addressed, and that’s just what Live Nation is doing. The billion dollar organization will ban all single-use plastics for festivals, venues, and clubs by 2021.

This new initiative and set of goals are outlined in Live Nation’s Green Nation coalition. Their primary goal is to reduce “greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, and end the sale of single-use plastics […] by 2021.”

Read what Michael Rapino, the President and CEO of Live Nation, says about it below:

Hosting over 35,000 concerts and festivals each year, Live Nation has the opportunity and responsibility to provide our artists and fans with a live music experience that protects our planet. The adverse effects of climate change are undeniable, and we want to use our place on the world stage to be part of the solution. Together our concerts, venues, festivals, and offices around the world are setting new sustainability standards for live events.

-Michael Rapino, President and CEO, Live Nation Entertainment

For the rest of the year, Live Nation is testing new plant-based water bottles across Europe at their venues and festivals.
