Say Goodbye to 'Friends' on Netflix in 2020

I’ll be the first to admit I still regularly watch Friends on Netflix. The sitcom tv-show has been a part of my life for quite some time; my mom even has all of the DVD’s from every season at home. Our Friends love runs deep. Most of the time, I play it as white noise in the background when I work, but I still truly do love the show.

Following the devastating news that The Office is being pulled from the streaming platform in 2021, is a continuation of devastation. Beginning in 2020, the Friends gang will move to WarnerMedia’s new streaming platform: HBO Max. The newly launched streaming service will offer 10,000 hours of content when it launches next Spring. It plans to combine shows and movies from Warner Bros., CNN, The CW, Adult Swim, and more. HBO Max also plans to exclusively stream The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Pretty Little Liars, and others.

“HBO Max will bring together the diverse riches of WarnerMedia to create programming and user experiences not seen before in a streaming platform. HBO’s world-class programming leads the way, the quality of which will be the guiding principle for our new array of Max Originals, our exciting acquisitions, and the very best of the Warner Bros. libraries, starting with the phenomenon that is Friends.”

– Robert Greenblatt, Warnermedia entertainment chairman

As the amount of streaming channels continue to grow and branch out from Netflix and Hulu, the two outlets may need to rely on creating more original quality content to replace what is taken off.
